The 2016 Girls State Golf Championships are complete.
Some very solid performances from Western Nebraska golfers over the two day event.
We’ll start in Class B in Columbus where Scottsbluff finished in third place in the team standings with a two day combined score of 730. The Lady Bearcats finished six shots back of second place McCook.
Omaha Duchesne Academy ran away with the team trophy at 688, good for a 56 shot win.
Individually for Scottsbluff, junior Shelby Poynter was the top area finisher, alone in fifth place with a two day score of 165. Poynter’s +21 score was eight shots back of state champion Kirsten Baete of Beatrice.
Also for Scottsbluff, Rachel Hancock finished in 18th place with a combined 182. D.J. Bokelman shot 191, Jordyn Hoxworth was at 192, and Ashlynn Haun finished at 216.
Gering finished the day where they started, in ninth place in the overall team standings.
Bailey Kreider and Jaylen Beam finished in a tie for 35th place with matching 198’s. Freshman Ali Boswell shot 213, while Megan Maser was at 214 and Afton Mitchell finished her two days at 218.
Sidney’s Emma Alexander finished alone in 10th place with a two day score of 171, 27 over par.
The Class C meet was held in North Platte and Ogallala wound up taking home the state title with a combined score of 730. Bayard finished in 9th place while Chadron
Individually it was Chadron’s Alpine Hickstein finishing in second place while West Point-Beemer’s Lacie Fox, who shot a two under round of 70 to close it out, was the individual champion.
Mitchell’s Kenzey Kanno had a 10th place finish with a two day score of 175.
Bayard senior Catherine Applegate had a memorable final day of golf, cashing in a hole in one on the 17th hole on her way to a 24th place finish! Her teammate, Samantha Trevino finished tied for 29th place.
