Lexington-There will be no return trip to the Class B State Soccer Tournament for Lexington as the Minutemen were knocked off by Gross Catholic 2-1 in the B-5 District Final on Saturday. Gross Catholic controlled the match and tempo early but the two teams remained scoreless at half. Things would change in the 2nd half as Brodie Von Dollen would get Gross on the board as he scored in the 44th minute. Eight minutes later Von Dollen would set up Joey Gallardo left of the net for a shot as Gross led 2-0. Lexington head coach Jess McHargue says it was just a tough day all around.
Lexington would eventually score as Lester Perez would manage a goal to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 62nd minute. The Minutemen had a couple of other chances to convert late but Gross was able to hold on. The loss ends the season for Lexington at 11-5, this was the final game for a big group of seniors and McHargue says they will certainly be missed.
Gross moves on the state tournament in Omaha at 12-5.
