Oakland-Craig Girls Basketball Star Dacey Nelson is headed to Hillsdale next season. Nelson says Hillsdale is a Division II school in the Central part of Michigan. “Hillsdale really attracted me because of first of all their academics. And then second of all their basketball program. They are a super conservative Liberal Arts school with about 1,200-1,400 students.”
Nelson says she plans to play shooting guard or small forward for Hillsdale, who participates in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Nelson said she also drew interest from Creighton, USC, San Diego State, Brown, and UNK.
She missed her whole junior year of high school with an ACL injury, and says she’s making the most of her senior season. “Yeah missing my whole junior year was really really hard and really difficult. And it took a lot of mental strength and perseverance to get through last year, and I think when something that you love so so much gets kind of taken away from you it made coming into this year feel like I didn’t want to take anything for granted, I didn’t want to take one practice for granted, I didn’t want to take one game for granted, I didn’t want to take one moment with my teammates for granted because I know what it feels like to not have that, and it just makes everything seem so much more tangible and real.”
Nelson is averaging 27 points a game heading into tonight’s game with BRLD.
She also played Volleyball and runs Track for the Knights.
