Lexington-Lexington’s Lester Perez came up big for Lexington on Wednesday afternoon scoring all three goals for the Minutemen as they held off Scottsbluff 3-2 in the B-8 boys subdistrict final. Lexington used the strong wind from the north to jump out to an early 2-0 advantage. Scottsbluff’s Jose Padilla answered and scored late in the first half as Lexington led 2-1 at the break. Perez would then strike again in the 46th minute on a long free kick into the wind that gave Lexington a 3-1 lead early in the second half. Head coach Jess McHargue talks about the win and the big day for Perez.
With ten minutes left Padilla got free again to pull the Bearcats within 3-2, but that’s as close as they would get. Head coach Nate Rock feels the slow start was just too much to overcome.
Lexington who is now 11-4 will more than likely host a sub-state match on Saturday. Despite the loss, Scottsbluff (9-7) still has a good chance to qualify for a sub-state match as the Bearcats are currently ranked in the top 16 in Class B power points.
