SUTTON – A two-run blast allowed the Sutton senior legion baseball team to prevail over visiting Bruning-Davenport-Shickley, 6-1 Wednesday night.
For the first time this summer, a Sutton player left the ball park. It happened in the second inning when Sam Noose snuck the ball over the right field fence for a two-run home run. James Griess and Chandler Stone also contributed, each driving in runs for the Mustangs.
The six runs was all that Garrett Nuss needed as he pitched four innings, allowing only two hits and striking out six for his third win on the mound this season.
Because of Nuss’s domination, BDS struggled offensively mustering six hits and only one extra base hit that came in the fifth inning. In that frame, BDS struck with two outs, scoring their only run from a Caden Norder RBI single to right field. Micah Dolnicek was tagged with the loss for BDS after allowing five hits, four earned runs, walked two and struck out four for his first loss of the season.
Sutton won their fourth straight and improved to 12-4 while BDS has now lost five of their last six and fell to 6-9.
