RRN/West Point-Beemer Girls Track Team 2018

The West Point-Beemer Track Team returns girls from 5 events the Cadets qualified for state in last year. Head Coach Craig Schmidt. “The girls we have returning that were state qualifiers last year are Brittney Hinkel, Katie Pilakowski, and Rebecca Weddell. They were all members of the 4X4 team. We did graduate one girl, Natalie Perez, off of that team. And we also are returning state qualifier Jamie Pierce in the 200 meter dash. Leigh Jahnke is our school record holder now in the pole vault. She’s coming back for her senior year. We also have a state medalist in Kendra Paasch who’s a junior this year in the discus coming back from state. And then Justice Bettenhausen in the 300 meter hurdles.”

Schmidt says the boys have no returning state qualifiers as they are going to be young. The girls won the East Husker Conference last year.

RRN/West Point-Beemer Boys Track Team 2018

West Point-Beemer doesn’t return any state qualifiers on the boys side. However, Schmidt feels the hurdle events will be the strength of the boys team this year. “We’ll be strong in the hurdles. My assistant coach Bill Frank does a really good job with hurdlers. As does all my coaches. But I think this year particularly we have a couple of possibles. Jesus Ramirez and we have Ronny Petersen in the hurdles, we have some good chances to do some good things there.”

Schmidt feels sprints, middle distances, and throwing events will be strengths for the girls.

West Point-Beemer opens up the season at an indoor meet at Concordia in Seward on Thursday. Schmidt says that meet figures to be tough. “We’re going to a Class B meet on Thursday, on the 15th. We go to Seward, and we’re going to go to Concordia’s Indoor Meet where we’re going to encounter like the Blair’s and the Boys Town’s, and the teams that we’re going to see during the season.”

The meet is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
