The West Point-Beemer Wrestling team expects to be good this year.

Co-Head Coach Ray Maxwell says the Cadets have good wrestlers in all weight classes.

“We’re really solid in the middle weights. We’ll have some guys sprinkled through in the lighter weights, and a very strong 220 pounder that nobody’s really expecting anything because he went two years ago to state, and then he was injured last year. And he’s going to pop on the scene and going to surprise some people I think.”

One notable wrestler for West Point-Beemer is Riley Berg, who qualified for state last year.

Co-Head Coach Jason Redmond says things won’t come easy for Berg this year.

“I expect big things out of Riley. So looking forward in the season his weight class to start the year is 132, and projected to have 10 returning state medalists in his weight class so looks to be one of the toughest weight classes in Class B throughout. So he’s going to be tested every weekend it looks like.”

Maxwell says districts will be serpentined this year.

The Cadets have their first dual on Thursday at home against Logan View.
