(AUDIO) Westco and Gering legion teams go 4-0 on Wednesday night

The Westco and Gering legion baseball programs had a perfect night on Wednesday, as they combined to go 4-0 with games here in the twin cities.

At Cleveland Field it was a juniors/seniors doubleheader for Westco against Bridgeport.

We had coverage as the Zephyrs polished off the Bombers 11-0 in five innings.

Paul Panduro struck out four and allowed just two hits over five shutout innings to pick up the win on the mound.

Gunnar Buckhammer was 2-2 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and two more driven in. Evan Hughes also plated a pair of runs.

It was fan appreciation night and senior recognition night at Cleveland Field as Head Coach Mark Moran and the program honored the efforts of Gunnar Buckhammer, Braden Lofink, Evan Hughes, A.J. Powell, Carlos Felix, Cody Snelling, and Brady Sindt.

The Zephyrs improved to 17-15 with the win and they’ll play Buckley four times over the weekend; two on the road Saturday and two at home on Sunday.

Mitch McKibbin had the only two hits for Bridgeport last night. The Bombers dropped to 7-16.

In the juniors game it was all Westco. The Express win big, 14-3. Westco improved to 22-15, they’ll play at the Spearfish, South Dakota Tournament Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

We also had radio coverage last night of Gering Platte Valley Companies doubleheader sweep of Martin, South Dakota.

Gering takes two at home on a hot night for baseball.

Gering avenged a 21-7 loss to Martin in early June with a thrashing in game one last night.


That was the five inning final score.

Gering slammed the door shut early as they plated 15 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Riley Schanaman had four hits and six RBI’s while Brent Barge, Austin Abbott, Chris Palomo, and Dalton Scott combined to go 10-16 with 11 more RBI’s.

Brayden Tarr picked up the win the opener on the mound.

In game two Gering was a 6-0 winner.

Abbott was able to stifle the Martin bats; he tossed seven shutout innings with 9 strikeouts in the complete game victory.

Barge and Dylan Radzymski each notched multi-hit games as Gering won their sixth game in a row to improve to 19-13 on the summer.

Head Coach Rick Kinnaman hoping things continue along this path with postseason ball just a couple weeks away.

Gering plays two more this afternoon against Martin over at Oregon Trail Park. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.

The 24-8 Gering B&C Steel juniors play in the Class B Area 7 Tournament tomorrow through Tuesday in Ogallala.
