YORK – It was an epic battle at York High School Saturday night, as the York Dukes and Aurora Huskies competed for the 2019 Central Conference basketball tournament championship.
The Huskies came out on top, 61-58, after a wild high-scoring fourth quarter, which saw the two teams combining for 46 points.
York jumped out in front early in the game, but after Aurora went ahead 14-10 after one quarter, the Dukes never held the lead again. Nine first half points by Aurora senior Cade Reichardt, helped stake his team to a 27-20 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Aurora twice opened up nine point leads, but could extend it no further, and York twice cut the lead to four, but couldn’t get any closer until the last seconds of the game, when a three pointer by Brady Danielson made it 60-58 Aurora. The Huskies added a Nick Hutsell free throw with .2 seconds remaining for the final margin, but York couldn’t get off a final shot after rebounding a missed free throw by Hutsell.
The Dukes “held” Aurora star Baylor Scheierman to 17 points in the game, as he sat out parts of the second half with four fouls, but Cade Reichardt scored 22, including 13 in the second half to lead the way for the Huskies, now 17-1. York was led by Brady Danielson’s 20 points, while Jeb Lucas added 14 before fouling out, and Wyatt Cast scored 13. With the loss, the Dukes are now 14-3 on the season.
