Briar Cliff earns sweep of Mount Marty

Briar Cliff earns sweep of Mount Marty

The Briar Cliff volleyball team came out swinging and hit a .488 against Mount Marty to sweep the Lancers 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-14) Tuesday evening. The Chargers improve to 8-7 on the season and 2-4 in the GPAC. The victory was the Chargers second sweep over the Lancers this season.

Briar Cliff hit an excellent .488 on 84 attacks with 50 kills and nine attack errors. The Chargers played great defense and held Mount Marty a .112 hitting percentage. The blue and gold also held the edge in assists (43-22), digs (36-24), and service aces (3-2). Mount Marty out blocked BCU 3-2.

Nicolette Lavulo earned 11 kills, followed by Katelin Langel with 10 and Courtney Schafer with 9. Defensively, Breanne Hankins led the way with 8 digs and Laura Barry notched 7 digs. Barry piled up 21 assists and Delaney Meyer added 16. Megan Lee crafted two service aces and Hankins added a service ace of her own.

Sierra Kloth led the Lancers with 11 kills on 34 attacks. Amber Dysthe led the team in assists with 14. Lindsey Jaixen paced Mount Marty defensively with 6 digs and had both of the service aces for the Lancers.

Briar Cliff will continue their road show on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Concordia. Opening serve between the Chargers and Bulldogs is set for 3 p.m.
