The Briar Cliff women’s volleyball team defeated Peru State in five sets (25-15, 12-25, 25-27, 25-21, 15-9). The victory was the first five set match in series history and ties the series 4-4. Briar Cliff hosted a block party, out blocking the Bobcats 14-7.
Briar Cliff had to play from behind after winning the first set and falling the next two. BCU was out hit .175-.135 and .143-.141 in the second and third sets. The Cliff earned their best hitting percentages in the first and fifth sets hitting .444-.194 in the first and .429-.091 in the fifth. The Chargers held the edge in kills (68-57), assists (59-52), and digs (96-91) as well as blocks (14-7). Briar Cliff outhit Peru State .218-.161 overall with the Cliff notching 57 kills on 186 attacks and 27 errors.
Katelin Langel led the Cliff in kills with 17, followed by Nicolette Lavulo with 12 and Courtney Schafer with 11. Laura Barry posted a double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs. Delaney Meyer notched the second most assists with 21. Breanne Hankins led the Cliff defensively with 35 digs, while Katie Berg notched 16 and Barry and Meyer each accounted for 10. Teerstyn Johnson led the block party with 10 blocks in the match.
Briar Cliff will be in action Saturday facing the #1 Midland Warriors in Fremont. The Chargers and Warriors are set to square off at 3 p.m.
