Creighton Athletics Hall of Fame To Induct Doug McDermott and Anthony Tolliver

OMAHA, Neb. —The Creighton University Athletics Hall of Fame will add a pair of all-time greats to its ranks on Saturday, August 24th at the Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District (222 North 10th Street).

This year’s inductees in the 52nd Hall of Fame class are Doug McDermott and Anthony Tolliver.

McDermott starred at Creighton from 2010-14 as a member of the men’s basketball program, where he was the 2014 National Player of the Year, three-time First Team All-American, three-time Conference Most Valuable Player and two-time Conference Tournament MVP. His 3,150 career points rank sixth in NCAA history and remain a school-record. He is the nation’s only player in the last 33 seasons to be named First Team All-American three times, and still owns single-season Creighton records for points, field goals and three-point percentage in a season.

A First Round draft pick of the Denver Nuggets in 2014, McDermott is wrapping up his fifth season in the NBA, and initial campaign with the Indiana Pacers. McDermott owns 2,659 points, 726 rebounds and 376 three-pointers in his career, which has seen him average 7.8 points on 40.4 percent shooting from three-point range. He is the son of current Creighton men’s basketball head coach Greg McDermott, who ranks second in program history with 207 victories on the Bluejay sideline.

Tolliver played at Creighton from 2003-07 under 2018 Creighton Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Dana Altman, helping the Bluejays to two NCAA Tournament and two NIT appearances. Tolliver was named First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference as a senior in 2007 when he averaged 13.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game. He was named a Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American and also landed a spot on the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award All-America Second Team in 2007, while in 2006 he was honored as NACDA I-AAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team. Tolliver ranks sixth in program history with 136 blocked shots, 19th with 603 rebounds and 41st with 1,004 points.

Despite going undrafted in 2007, Tolliver recently finished his 11th season in the NBA, and third year with the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise. Tolliver owns more than 4,000 points, 2,000 rebounds and 800 three-pointers in the NBA while playing for nine different organizations.

The Creighton Athletics Hall of Fame contains 86 inductees, plus the 1991 Creighton Baseball Team. It started in 1968 with the induction with Bob Gibson, and features 33 former Bluejay men’s basketball coaches and student-athletes.

The Saturday, August 24 event will commence with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., with the dinner and program to follow at 7 p.m. Tickets to the event are $125 per person or $1,250 for a table of 10.
