Omaha, Neb. — Head coach Ed Servais officially announced the signing of nine additions to the Bluejays baseball squad in 2019. Joining Creighton next season will be Paul Bergstrom, Jack Grace, Connor Hock, Jack Peluso, Owen Richter, Alan Roden, Dylan Tebrake, Jared Wegner and Ryan Windham.
“We’re excited about this recruiting class, not only did it fill a lot of needs, but this is a high character group,” said Servais. “We focused this class on bringing in a strong group of young arms, as well as a couple high level position players who are athletic enough to excel in TD Ameritrade Park.”
A left-handed pitcher from Mount Prospect, Illinois, Bergstrom stands six-foot tall. He recorded a 2.19 ERA in 11 appearances on the mound for Notre Dame College Prep in 2017. Bergstrom was rated as the 104th Illinois prospect by Prep Baseball Report.
A 6-3 outfielder from Lagrange, Illinois, Grace comes to Creighton from Fenwick High School. Jack contributed a .360 batting average as well as a 1.000 fielding percentage his junior season and is the 54th Illinois prospect by Prep Baseball Report.
A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, the 6-3 right-handed pitcher initially committed to Notre Dame, making 10 appearances and two starts for the Fighting Irish. He recorded a 3.00 ERA in 13 appearances in his sophomore campaign for Chipola. Rated as the 14th ranked Wisconsin prospect by Prep Baseball Report in 2015. Hock was part of the junior college national championship squad at Chipola.
A 6-2 infielder, Peluso comes from Huntington, N.Y. Jack helped Chaminade High School to a 16-13 record in his junior season. He enters his senior season as the third ranked first baseman in New York by Perfect Game.
Making a short trip from Creighton Prep, Richter stands at 6-0. The Elkhorn native is a decorated catcher for the Junior Jays, helping lead them to three consecutive Class A State Championship titles. Perfect Game rated Richter as the top catcher in Nebraska, while Prep Baseball Report tabbed Richter as the ninth rated prospect in Nebraska.
Coming from Middleton, Wisconsin, Roden is a 6’0 catcher at Middleton High School. Alan hit for a staggering .511 his junior season and was the 10th Ranked Player in Wisconsin by Prep Baseball Report.
Originially from Cold Spring, Minnesota, Tebrake is a 6-3 right-handed pitcher from Rocori High School. He recorded a 2.33 ERA his junior season as well as boasting a 4-2 record. Prep Baseball Report lists Tebrake as the fourth best prospect in Minnesota.
A 6’1 outfielder from Kearney, Wegner is a three-sport athlete for Kearney High School, Wegner choose Creighton over Duke, Missouri, Tennessee-Martin and Indiana State. He is the 13th ranked prospect in Nebraska, by Prep Baseball Report.
Windham heads east to Omaha from Castle Rock, Colorado to round out the 2019 class. A 6-0 RHP/INF, Windham hit .289 in his junior campaign. He made seven appearances on the mound, striking out 40 batters in 32.2 innings. Windham was tabbed as the fifth best pitcher in Colorado by Perfect Game.
