Creighton Softball Releases 2018 Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton softball head coach Brent Vigness announced the release of the 2018 schedule on Friday, Dec. 22. The Bluejays will host 21 contests, including their first home tournament since the 1993 season.

Additionally, four of the Bluejays’ opponents participated in the 2017 NCAA tournament (North Dakota State, Minnesota, Missouri, DePaul).

The Creighton Tournament will take place March 16-17 at the Creighton Sports Complex, and includes the host Bluejays, Iowa and Wichita State. Creighton will play a total of three games during the two-day event. Overall, two games will take place on Friday and three on Saturday.

The Bluejays’ home schedule also features four BIG EAST three-game sets (Providence, DePaul, Georgetown, Villanova), and three mid-week games (South Dakota, UMKC, Nebraska-Omaha) during the month of April.

Creighton opens the 2018 slate with four road trips. The Bluejays begin their season at the Sportco Kick Off Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada (Feb. 9-11). The season starts against host UNLV on Feb. 9. The team’s final contest before returning to Omaha is against defending Big Ten champion Minnesota (Feb. 11).

The White and Blue heads to Boiling Springs, North Carolina for the Runnin’ Bulldog Softball Tournament, Feb. 16-18. Creighton will play four games at the event hosted by Gardner-Webb.

The Bluejays also travel to Denton, Texas for the North Texas Schutt Classic (Feb. 23-25) and Columbia, Missouri for the Mizzou Tournament (March 2-4).

Following 20 games on the road, Creighton is scheduled to open its home slate March 9-10 against Southeast Missouri.

BIG EAST Conference play begins March 24-25 with a weekend series in Queens, N.Y. against defending regular-season champion St. John’s, and the Jays host Providence March 28-29 for the first home league games.

Twenty-one of the Bluejays final 32 contests are set to take place in Omaha.

The last time Creighton played at least 20 home games was in 2008 when the team played 21 games at the Creighton Sports Complex and went 19-2 during such contests in Omaha. Last season the Bluejays played only 12 home games (6-6), the fewest since the team played only 10 at home during the 1994 season.

The 2017 BIG EAST Softball Championship will take place May 11 and 12 in Rosemont, Ill. The top four teams in the final conference regular-season standings will play in the single-elimination postseason tournament, with the winner receiving the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals.

Creighton ended the 2017 season 18-32 overall, and 8-13 during BIG EAST play
