Creighton women’s basketball downs Kansas

Omaha, Neb. — Four Bluejays finished in double figures as the Creighton women’s basketball team posted a decisive 69-49 win over Kansas on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The win evened the Bluejays mark at 3-3 on the season, while Kansas fell to 3-3.

Mired in a season-long shooting slump, the Bluejays came out hot as Creighton hit eight of ten shots in the first quarter to jump out to a 19-10 lead after one period. Tied at 6-6 with 6:01 showing on the clock the Bluejays rattled off five straight on a trifecta from senior MC McGrory and a mid-range jumper from sophomore Audrey Faber. Up 11-8 moments later, another 5-0 run gave Creighton a 16-8 edge as senior Marissa Janning nailed a pull-up jumper followed by a three-pointer.

McGrory and sophomore Ali Greene stabilized the Bluejays in the second quarter with nine combined points as the Creighton took a 30-22 lead into the break.

Kansas pulled within one possession early in the second half with five straight to make it 30-27. After the two teams traded buckets, Creighton pushed back out by eight via a three-point play from senior Brianna Rollerson and a jumper from Janning.

Holding a 51-42 edge early in the final period of play, the Bluejays put the game away with a 10-0 run. The Creighton surge consisted of treys from senior Lauren Works and Faber, combined with layups from Rollerson and junior Bailey Norby.

Janning led the Bluejays with 15 points, while Faber had 13. Rounding out the double figure scorers the Bluejays got 11 from McGrory as well as 10 from Rollerson.

Kansas’ lone player in double figures was Chayla Cheadle with 12 points.

Creighton returns to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 7 as the Bluejays host cross town rival Nebraska-Omaha at 12:00 pm in the annual Cox Kids Day.
