New York, N.Y. — Coming off a double overtime win at Providence on Saturday, the Creighton women’s basketball team swept the BIG EAST Weekly awards with sophomore Jaylyn Agnew taking Player of the Week and Temi Carda taking the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday, Feb. 12.
Agnew scored a career-high 33 points while adding 11 boards and four assists at Providence on Saturday. The sophomore scored the game-tying three-pointer to send the contest into a second overtime frame as she made 5-of-8 from deep and 9-of-18 overall on the afternoon. Agnew’s 33 are second most by a BIG EAST player this season and the most in a conference game since Feb. 17, 2017, when Adrianna Hahn of Villanova matched that mark. Creighton improved to 5-1 this season in games with extra periods, including 3-0 in games with at least two overtime frames.
Carda repeats as top rookie after scoring 17 points in Saturday’s double-overtime win at Providence. The freshman guard shot 50 percent from the field, including 50 percent from beyond the arc, while playing 39 minutes of turnover-free basketball. Carda added a pair of rebounds and an assist, while draining a trio of three-pointers for the second time this season.
Agnew, Carda and the rest of the Bluejays return to the court on Friday, Feb. 16 as Creighton hosts Xavier in the annual Pink Game at 7:00 pm.
