OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton Volleyball’s Megan Ballenger has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after averaging 1.73 kills, 2.55 digs, 0.45 blocks and 0.27 aces last week as Creighton went 2-1 at the Bluejay Invitational.
Ballenger’s week opened with a career-high 16 digs in a narrow five-set loss to No. 4 Kansas. She added a team-high two aces, and also finished with eight kills in 29 swings.
In Friday’s sweep of a TCU team that was receiving votes in the AVCA poll, Ballenger hit .333 and finished with five kills, eight digs and two blocks.
She closed out her weekend with six kills, four digs, two blocks and an ace on .600 hitting in a 3-0 sweep of defending Southern Conference champion Chattanooga.
An Ankeny, Iowa native, Ballenger leads Creighton with eight service aces and also ranks in the top-five on the team in kills, digs and blocks.
Creighton returns to the court on Tuesday night at 6 pm Central with a contest at Kansas State. That match can be heard in Omaha on 1180 AM (KZOT).
