Creighton’s Rembao named Big East Freshman of the Week

New York, N.Y. — Bluejay freshman Tatum Rembao‘s stellar play against three NCAA Tournament squads last season (Northern Iowa, Washington and UCLA) brought the Colorado native the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor on Monday, Nov. 27th. Rembao averaged 10.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and .423 shooting as the Bluejays bested Northern Iowa in double overtime on Tuesday and pushed Sweet 16 teams Washington and UCLA in the South Point Thanksgiving Tournament in Las Vegas.

Junior Audrey Faber also nabbed some recognition as the Iowa native collected a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Faber averaged 20.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and .435 shooting, including a .471 clip from deep. The junior’s week included a 29-point, eight-rebound, four-assists showing in a double-overtime win over Northern Iowa

Rembao, Faber and the rest of the Bluejays have some well deserved time off before facing Drake on Sunday, Dec. 3 in Des Moines at 2:00 pm. The entire BIG EAST Weekly Awards are below.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Jovana Nogic, Providence, Jr., G
The BIG EAST’s leading scorer led the Friars to a 3-0 record in Savannah, Ga., last week with a league-best 22.7 scoring average in victories over Savannah State, Wright State and Stetson. The junior shot .435 from the field and a stellar .571 clip from beyond the arc while adding 2.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds. Nogic’s 22.5 points per game average for the year leads the BIG EAST and ranks 15thnationally. Her four 20-point games are tied for the most in the conference as the junior has led Providence in scoring in all six games (4-2) this year.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Tatum Rembao, Creighton, Fr., G

A week which featured games against three teams coming off NCAA Tournament berths, including two fresh off trips to the Sweet 16, The rookie’s week was highlighted by a 14-point, five-rebound, three-steal showing in Creighton’s double-overtime win over Northern Iowa. Rembao also posted 12 points and seven rebounds against NR/RV Washington, while chipping in six points against No. 5/4 UCLA.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Allazia Blockton, Marquette, Jr., G
In a 1-1 week in Cancun, Blockton averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, including 28 points and 11 boards against No. 12/14 Tennessee. The junior was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Audrey Faber, Creighton, Jr., F

Adrianna Hahn, Villanova, Jr., G
Hahn helped the Wildcats improve to a BIG EAST-leading 5-0 with a pair of wins in Burlington, Vt., this weekend where she averaged 15.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in 67 minutes of turnover-free play.

JaQuan Jackson, R-Sr., G
Jackson averaged a Tournament-high 18.5 points per game to earn MVP honors at the SHU Thanksgiving Classic. In the semifinals against Rider, she scored 19 points and went 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Jackson followed that up with 18 points in the title game against Jacksonville State, hitting three more triples. Overall the guard went 8-for-16 from 3-point range in the 2-0 tourney run.

Tori Schickel, Butler, Jr., F/C
A busy week for the Bulldogs against tough competition saw Schickel average 16.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and .519 shooting, including a 27-point, 15-rebound outing in a win over NR/RV Virginia Tech on Friday. She totaled three double-doubles and was one rebound shy of a fourth against No. 11/13 West Virginia.
