Rocky Mountain Athletic College coaches have selected the Chadron State College men’s basketball team as the 14th-best team in the 15-team league, in a poll released today.

The preseason poll was voted on by the 15 head coaches of the RMAC. 14 points are awarded for a first-place vote, 13 for a second-place vote, continuing in descending order. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Eagles amassed 39 points, ahead of 15th place Western State (26 points), who finished 2015-16 tied with CSC at 14th, and just four points behind South Dakota Mines, who was 12th last season.

The last time Chadron State was tabbed 14th was prior to the 2013-14 season, when the Eagles finished 11-15 and tied for ninth in the league standings.

Colorado School of Mines (186 points) was selected as the top RMAC team, edging Fort Lewis (180) and MSU Denver (178).

Not appearing in the poll for the first time in 10 years was Western New Mexico University, who departed for the Lone Star Conference over the summer.

First-year head men’s basketball coach Houston Reed inherits a team with two returning starters and five total letterwinners from last season. Newcomers include seven transfer students and three true freshmen.
