Gering PVC falls in extra innings to Chadron

Gering PVC falls in extra innings to Chadron
Oregon Trail Park hosting rivalry baseball tonight.

Seven innings wasn’t enough at Oregon Trail Park in Gering as the Platte Valley Companies SR’s were beaten in their season opener by Chadron.

After the first three hitters for Chadron reached in the top of the ninth it was Coy Bila delivering a big two run single off Mike Gutherless as Chadron went on to win it 5-2.

Gutherless took the loss, he pitched three innings out of the Gering bullpen, allowing the three runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out four.

Brent Barge got the start for Gering and struck out ten over his six innings of work. He allowed two unearned runs. Assistant Coach Danny O’Boyle said Barge did his job despite some rough defense behind him.

Gering committed six errors on the night.

Barge and Gutherless did a nice job limiting the free passes as they combined to issue just three walks in the game.

Chadron pitchers walked nine in the game.

Michael Giesler picked up the win for Chadron tossing 5 1/3 innings of relief and he allowed just one unearned run.

Gering had a great chance to walk off with the win in the bottom of the seventh.

Dylan Radzymski got the rally started with a one out triple. The ball was smoked to the left center field gap. Chris Palomo was then issued an intentional walk and then Gutherless drew an unintentional, intentional walk to load the bases for Dalton Scott.

Scott hit a fly ball to short left field and then Radzymski was gunned down at the plate trying to score the winning run.

Coach O’Boyle said Chadron had to do everything right on the play, and they did.

The Gering B&C Steel JR’s won the early game last night 8-0 in five innings.

The Gering squads right back at it tonight as they host Alliance in Jr/Sr doubleheader. The Jr’s game up first at 5 p.m. with the Sr’s game slated to start at 7 o’clock.

Coverage of game two can be seen tonight on KNEB.tv, ALLO Channel 15, and Mobius Channel 1500. Chuck Schwartz will have the broadcast starting at approximately 6:45 (last night’s broadcast didn’t start till 7 o’clock following the first game) with first pitch expected at 7 p.m.
