SUTHERLAND – The Gothenburg Swedes survived 22 turnovers en route to beating Cozad 53-41 and snapping a ten-game losing streak. The Swedes move on to play top-seeded Ogallala on Wednesday night.
Gothenburg jumped out to an early 15-8 lead after the first quarter. Cozad chipped away at the lead and was only down by four points at halftime. The Haymakers took a lead midway thru the third quarter; Gothenburg rebuilt their lead before the end of the quarter going up by eight points.
The rugged fourth quarter eventually saw the Swedes finish the game up by 12 points. Annica Harm finished with 14 points and Kaitlyn Kleinknecht added 13 points to lead the way for Gothenburg. Abigail Cornelius was the leading scorer for the Haymakers with 14 points. Brenna Dugan finished her successful basketball career with ten points in the game.
Cozad’s season ends with loss.
