Gothenburg played host to Holdrege, and took home the victory over the Dusters 17-14. The Swedes were able to strike first on a 35 yard field goal by Dominic Long. Holdrege was able to strike back though in the second quarter with a 71 yard touchdown drive capped by a 2 yard touchdown by Alex Wells. Gothenburg was able to counter that score with one of their own. 14 plays and 70 yards later the Swedes scored. At the half the score was 10-3 in favor of Gothenburg.
In the third quarter Gothenburg extended their lead to 10 points, with a 63 yard touchdown pass from Dawson Graham to Bennett Folkers. In the fourth quarter Holdrege made things interesting by scoring on a 65 yard touchdown drive, but came no closer as their final drive ended in an interception by Gothenburg’s Dawson Graham and the final was 17-14.
For Holdrege Alex Wells had 86 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. For Gothenburg Dawson Graham went 14-20 with 202 yard passing and 2 touchdowns.
Holdrege is now 0-1 and will face Scottsbluff next week, and Gothenburg is 1-0 and will play Ogallala next week.
