Seward- In one of their toughest matches yet of the season, the Hastings College volleyball team had to show their resiliency when they beat the Concordia Bulldogs in straight sets (26-24, 27-25, 25-15) at Walz Arena on Wednesday. Set one started as a back-and-forth affair between the Broncos (12-0,4-0 GPAC) and the Bulldogs (5-9,0-4 GPAC) up until a 7-7 tie. The Bulldogs then used an 11-5 run to take a sizeable 18-12 lead over the Broncos. The Broncos answered back with a 6-0 run of their own to tie it again at 18 off a kill by Ally Ginkens (SO/Mullen, NE), service ace by Emily Filsinger (SR/Clearwater, NE), and four errors by the Bulldogs. Both teams went back and forth again before a kill by Katie Placke (SR/Grand Island, NE) and a block by Andrea LaVene (SR/Roca, NE) and Cassidy Ostrand (SO/Central City, NE) gave the Broncos the 26-24 set one win.

The Broncos again saw themselves trailing the Bulldogs for most of set two, but came back late in the set with a 7-1 run with kills by LaVene and Lucy Skoch (FR/Hastings, NE) along with service aces by Filsinger and Jill Bax (SR/Lincoln, NE) to take a 24-21 lead. The Bulldogs got back into the set with four straight rallies won. With the set tied at 25, the Broncos clinched set two off a kill by Placke and a service ace by Casey Krolikowski (JR/Cairo, NE). Set three was all Broncos, who took an early lead and never let off the gas pedal en route to a 25-15 win which was capped by a service ace by Rielyn Hoffman (JR/Chandler, AZ). With this sweep. Placke led the team with 13 kills and nine digs. Clare Hamburger (JR/Hastings, NE) led the team in assists with 17. Jill Bax tallied 27 digs. As a team, the Broncos collected eight service aces. This was the Broncos 24th consecutive set won dating back to the Oklahoma City match back in August. The Broncos travel to Mitchell, S.D. on Friday to take on the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers at the Mitchell Corn Palace in a 7:30 p.m. match.
