High school sports recap from Thursday

This will be a more quick hitter/bullet point style recap from the prep scene yesterday.

Cross Country District meets

B-4 (Ogallala): The Scottsbluff girls won their 3rd straight district title. Whitney Riesen finished first. Kaylee Bentley finished fifth. For Gering a fine showing as well as they finished second in the team standings led by a second place finish from Rebekah Rawlings. Tukker Romey finished fourth. Scottsbluff, Gering, and Sidney all qualified as teams for state.

On the boys side Lexington, Sidney, and Gering were the top three teams, all advancing to state. Scottsbluff just missed out on a trip to state in fourth place. Josh Hergenrader took home the top spot for the Bearcats while brother Noah finished in fifth.  Gering placed three in the top ten…Xaiver Arellano 2nd, Logan Moravec 8th, and Tanner Walker was 9th.

C-4: Both the B and C meets were in Ogallala and in Class C on the girls side it was Mitchell earning a team district title. They were paced by Celeste Cardona, who finished second overall. Mitchell had four runners in the top 11. On the boys side for Mitchell they qualified Max Avila to the state meet.

D-4 (Bayard): Bridgeport and Kimball finished second and third in the boys race to qualify for state. Area runners finished in the top three spots as Kimball’s Brandon Barker took first followed by Alex Araujo of Bayard and Declan Jeffries of Bridgeport. Besides the Bridgeport and Kimball teams, also heading to state is Hemingford’s Jacob Clouse.

Boys State Tennis

With day one complete all that’s left standing for either Scottsbluff, Gering, or Alliance is the Bearcats no. 1 doubles team of Soren Mercer-Smith and Brady Sindt. The duo went 2-1 yesterday and they’ll be able to play for as high as fifth place today. You can link to all the brackets right here.
