HOLDREGE- A pair of 1-5 teams faced off on Friday night, and it was the home team Holdrege winning against Lexington 28-20.
Lexington started the game off with a two-yard touchdown run from Jake Leger and the score was 6-0 in the first quarter. Holdrege then countered with a two-yard run of their own from Alex Wells in the second quarter and the score was then 8-6. The teams traded scores and at half Holdrege led 14-12.
In the second half, the battle continued, but Holdrege was able to extend their lead to 16 at one point as the score was 28-12 heading into the fourth quarter. Lexington tried to comeback, and they got within eight on a Leger one-yard run in the fourth quarter. On the ensuing possession, Holdrege had to punt with a minute left. Lexington tried to drive down the field, but was unable to score as the following play resulted in an interception for Holdrege’s Tyler Buck.
For Lexington, Jake Leger had 192 total yards and three total touchdowns. Holdrege’s Alex Wells had 221 yards on 45 carries and two touchdowns.
Holdrege is now 2-5 and will face McCook, for Lexington they are 1-6 and will play Hastings next week.
