HS roundup from Monday; cross country and volleyball

Many  area high school cross country teams competed Monday in Kearney at the UNK Invite.

In Class B the Scottsbluff girls finished in 3rd place overall in the team standings. They were lead by fine performances from Whitney Riesen and Kaylee Bently. Riesen was the runner up with a time of 19:25.07 while Bentley finished in sixth place overall.

Gering’s Rebekah Rawlings came in 8th while teammate Tukker Romey crossed the line in 11th place.

On the boys side in the Class B race Sidney was the top area team in 10th while Scottsbluff finished 13th. Gering was just inside the top 20.

The top individual finisher was Josh Hergenrader of Scottsbluff who came in 7th with a time of 17:02.15.

In Class C girls Mitchell finished fourth. Hannah Knepper for the Lady Tigers was a top 10 finisher.

The Chadron boys finished 8th while Bayard’s Alex Araujo crossed the line ahead of all other area runners in second place.

Bridgeport fared well in Class D with the girls team finishing 6th and the boys team in 4th place.

In volleyball it was Hemingford winning both their matches at the Bayard triangular to get to 17-3 on the season. Results:

Hemingford def Bayard 25-16, 25-17

Hemingford def Bridgeport 25-18, 25-18

Bayard def Bridgeport 25-23, 22-25, 25-20

Tonight’s prep schedule:

Softball: Alliance at Gering (can be seen on and Allo channel 15 starting at 5:50 p.m.), and Scottsbluff at Chadron

Volleyball: Scottsbluff at Sidney (can be heard on KNEB AM 960 and at approximately 6:45), Mitchell at Southeast, and Potter-Dix triangular featuring Bayard and South Platte

Boys Tennis: Gering and Scottsbluff at the Alliance triangular
