FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Iowa State (37-25) fell 4-3 to UT Arlington (36-27) in the NISC finals on Sunday, ending the team’s 2019 postseason run.
The 2019 campaign ends as the program’s winningest season since 1982, and Iowa State advanced to a national postseason tournament for the first time since 1988.

The Cyclones came out of the gates fast, facing elimination for the third time in as many games. Sami Williams and Taylor Nearad notched base hits to lead-off the top of the first inning, and were moved over to third on a Talyn Lewis sacrifice bunt.
Sydney Stites then collected the first RBI of the day on a ground ball that scored Williams from third. In the ensuing at-bat, senior Sally Woolpert dropped an RBI single into right field to bring Nearad home, giving the Cyclones a 2-0 lead through one half inning of play.
UTA mounted a response, as Whitney Walton led-off the bottom of the first with a triple. She later scored on an RBI single to right center by Aileen Garcia, cutting the ISU lead to 2-1.
The Cyclones remained in front until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Mavericks plated two runs on one hit and two ISU errors to take their first lead of the day. Laura Curry laid down a bunt for an RBI single that put UTA in front.
Iowa State drew three walks in the following frame, and Skyler Ramos charged home to score on a UT Arlington throwing error to knot the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning.
Following a scoreless sixth, Garcia would go on to collect a walk-off RBI single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring Krista Rude to secure the UTA victory.
Following the game, Williams, Nearad and Emma Hylen were named to the NISC All-Tournament team.
