Iowa State Men fall at home to TCU

AMES, Iowa- TCU (17-6, 5-5 Big 12) converted on 63.3 percent of its shots in the second half and made 53.2 percent for the game in a 92-83 win over No. 17 Iowa State (18-6, 7-4 Big 12) Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum.

Kouat Noi had 17 points and Kendric Davis made 7-of-10 shots (22 points) to pace the Horned Frogs, as the Cyclones fell at home for only the second time this season.

ISU shot 45.2 percent from the field, but struggled from long range, making just 7-of-24 shots from beyond the arc (29.2%).

Marial Shayok led the Cyclones with 24 points, scoring 18 of them in the second half. Michael Jacobson was 8-of-10 from the field en route to 16 points.

How It Happened
After jumping out to an early 13-4 lead, the Cyclones went scoreless for four minutes in a 10-0 TCU run, as the Horned Frogs moved ahead, 14-13. TCU then stretched its run to 22-2 to take a 26-15 lead with 7:08 left in the first half.

Noi then hit a 3-pointer to give TCU a 14-point lead at 31-17 with under six minutes remaining in the first half. Two baskets by Shayok aided the Cyclones in a 12-2 run, as ISU went into intermission down 36-29. ISU was just 1-of-11 from 3-point range in the opening period.

TCU opened the second half hot, making 5-of-7 to begin the final frame to forge ahead 48-34 with 17:23 left in the contest.

The Cyclones trimmed the lead to 12 points, but at the 10-minute mark, TCU increased its lead to 19 points (67-48).

Iowa State slapped on a full-court press to make a late push. Shayok scored seven-straight points to trim the deficit to under double digits (75-66) with 3:28 remaining. However, TCU answered with a 3-point play by J.D. Miller to stop the run.

Players of Note
Michael Jacobson scored 10 of his 16 points in the first half this afternoon. He was 8-of-10 from the field and grabbed five rebounds.

Marial Shayok scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half, reaching the 20-point mark for the 11th time this season. He also had a team-high seven rebounds and was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. He had a streak of 25-straight made free-throws end tonight.
