AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (23-18, 1-8 Big 12) lost its series finale to No. 14 Oklahoma State (32-11, 10-2 Big 12) on Sunday, 12-5. Iowa State was unable to keep pace with a potent Cowgirl offense that totaled 16 hits on the day.

OSU grabbed the early momentum, plating two runs in each the first and second innings. A two-run home run by Madi Sue Montgomery started the scoring, and the visitors churned out two more runs in the top of the second to put the Cyclones in an early 4-0 hole.

Iowa State righted the ship in the home half of the second. Kasey Simpson notched ISU’s first hit of the day with a line drive to right center.  Sydney Stites followed Simpson with a hit of her own, putting runners at second and third.

Logan Schaben then stepped to the plate and ripped a shot down the left field line, bringing home Simpson and Stites. Sami Williams brought home Schaben with an RBI base hit, and Taylor Nearad followed with another single.  Sally Woolpert kept the Cyclones rolling, bringing Williams and Nearad home with a two-RBI single to left field to complete the flurry and give Iowa State a 5-4 lead.

Oklahoma State fought hard against ISU relief pitcher Emma Hylen in the third and managed to plate two, giving them the lead 6-5. Hylen would hold OSU in check for the next two innings before the Cowgirls broke things open in the sixth and seventh frames.

The Cowgirls tallied two runs in the sixth on a two-RBI base hit by Chyenne Factor, giving them an 8-5 lead. In the final inning, OSU scored four more runs to pull away for the 12-5 victory.

Sami Williams and Sydney Stites both went 2-of-3 at the plate on the day, and each scored a run. Williams had one RBI and a stolen base to top off her day. Sally Woolpert and Logan Schaben had two RBI each, accounting for the rest of the Cyclone scores.

Emma Hylen (11-7) had a season-high nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work against the Cowgirls in the loss.
