Iowa State Women rout North Dakota

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State got back into the win column on Sunday afternoon with a 87-35 win over North Dakota inside Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones improve to 7-2 on the year, while the Fighting Hawks are now 2-6.

Iowa State was led by Bridget Carleton, who recorded 18 points, seven rebounds and a career-high seven steals in just 22 minutes of play. Joining her in double figures for ISU was Ashley Joens(11), Inès Nezerwa (11) and Kristin Scott (10).

How It Happened
Iowa State did the majority of its damage at either end of the first quarter, going on an 8-0 run to start the game, five from Bridget Carleton and an 11-0 run to close the quarter. The Cyclones were able to utilize the majority of their roster, with nine players getting action in the first 10 minutes as ISU moved ahead 26-9.

The ISU run from the first quarter would get up to 23-0 as North Dakota was kept off the scoreboard until the 5:33 mark of the second frame. The Cyclones then went on another 12-0 run as the lead got up to as many as 39 points in the first half, with Ashley Joens getting a put back at the buzzer to give the home side a 52-13 halftime lead.

The lopsided score line allowed some of the reserve Cyclones to get some major minutes. No ISU played logged more than 22 minutes on the day, while 11 of the 12 Cyclones in uniform got at least 10 minutes of run. The Cyclone lead would got to as many as 52 points in the second half of the contest.

Players of Note
Bridget Carleton reached double figures in the first eight minutes of the game. It was an efficient showing from Carleton, who made 6-of-9 shots from the field, including going 3-of-5 from 3-point range to finish with 18 points. She also added a career-high seven steals and seven rebounds.

Ashley Joens had a light day at the office, recording just 12 minutes but getting 11 points and six rebounds in that time.
