Iowa Volleyball sweeps Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Iowa volleyball team wrapped up its first weekend of competition with a 3-0 sweep of Belmont inside Curb Event Center on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (25-15) Iowa started out strong with a Taylor Louis kills to get things started and opened up on a 6-1 run before forcing a Belmont timeout. The Hawkeyes continued the barrage throughout the set with kills by senior Reghan Coyle, freshman Amiya Jones, and freshman Hannah Clayton.

SET 2 (25-18) The second set started out close with the Bruins hanging with the Hawkeyes until back-to-back blocks by Clayton opened the floodgates. Iowa finished the set with 19 digs, 13 kills, and 12 assists.

SET 3 (25-15) The third set was highlighted by three kills by sophomore Griere Hughes. Hughes finished with a .286 attack percentage. Freshman Maddie Slagle tallied two service aces as well.

“It was a great total team effort. That was important. Players like Taylor Louis anchored us with nine kills on 12 swings. That’s a pretty big number. I really loved seeing everybody in our program find a way to be significant. Cali Hoye was fantastic and Maddie Hine was great off of the bench.”

NOTEABLES
Senior Taylor Louis’ .750 attack percentage (9-12) is a career-high.
Freshman Hannah Clayton posted a .500 attack percentage.
