Legion baseball recap from Tuesday night

Here’s the recap of legion baseball from around the area on Tuesday night.

Westco Zephyrs 4, Chadron 1…Trent Richter pitched into the sixth inning and allowed just one un-earned run to go along with six strikeouts to pick up the win. In his last two starts, Richter has thrown 17 1/3 innings allowing just two runs with 18 strikeouts. At the plate last night for the Zephyrs it was Chase Lovercheck going 2-2 with two RBI. He dropped down two perfectly executed squeeze bunts for runs, one he turned into a bunt single. Gunnar Buckhammer also had two hits and drove in two.

Tonight: The Zephyrs take their 4-9 record into a home doubleheader against the Buckley Bombers starting at 5 p.m. We’ll have coverage on KNEB AM 960 and 100.3 FM starting at 4:45.

Gering PVC 11, Bridgeport 3…Gering bounced back from an 0-3 weekend in Chadron by notching their fourth win of the season. Austin Abbott led the way, both at the plate and on the mound. Abbott the winning pitcher, tossing all six frames allowing just one earned run with 5 K’s. With the bat he went 2-4 with 3 RBI. Lance Garcia finished 3-3 while Brent Barge had two hits and two runs scored. Curtis Freeze had two of Bridgeport’s three hits in the loss.

Tonight: Gering plays at Chadron and we’ll have coverage on The Beet at kneb.com starting at 6:45, first pitch scheduled for 7 o’clock.

Westco Express 21, Chadron 2…The Express moved over .500 at 6-5 and they’ll visit North Platte for a doubleheader tonight.

Gering B&C Steel 10, Bridgeport 0…After the weekend off the Gering juniors rolled to a shutout win last night to improve to 10-1 on the season. They’ll play the front end of that jr/sr doubleheader tonight at Chadron starting at 5 p.m.

Sidney 8, Alliance 4

Gordon-Rushville 12, Morrill 3…With the loss Morrill stays winless at 0-10, they’ll be off till next Wednesday when they host Sidney.
