Lincoln – Nebraska punter Caleb Lightbourn (Washougal, Wash.) was honored Monday for his performance against No. 22 Oregon, as he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Lightbourn averaged 47.2 yards on his five punts and placed three of his five kicks inside the 20 in Saturday’s 35-32 win. The freshman set personal bests in average, punts inside the 20 and uncorked a career-long 58 yarder in the fourth quarter. Lightbourn’s final three kicks were all inside the Oregon 20-yard line. Lightbourn and the Husker punt coverage team combined for a net 46.2 yards on his punts against the Ducks, a team which ranked 19th in the country in punt returns entering Saturday’s game.
