OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha Mavericks cross country team has been selected fifth in The Summit League’s preseason cross country poll released on Friday. The Mavericks received 23 points in the poll as voted by the league’s eight head coaches.
South Dakota State was the first-place pick, receiving 46 points and four first-place votes. Defending Summit champion South Dakota received three first-place votes and came in second with 42 points, followed closely by North Dakota State with 40 points and one first-place vote. The full results of the poll are below.
The Mavericks were fifth in the 2015 Summit championship and return four runners who competed in that meet including senior Alyssa Thavenet, juniors Rosie Genischen and Alyssa Averhoff and sophomore Lauren Houston.
Omaha opens the 2016 season on Friday, Sept. 2 at the Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls, S.D.
