Midland Volleyball wins at Concordia

SEWARD, Neb. – Midland University’s volleyball team ended their three-game slide with a four set win at Concordia University. The Warriors took the first two sets (25-19, 25-23) but were unable to get the sweep as the Bulldogs took game three 28-26. Set four was a battle until the finish as Midland won 25-20.

With the victory the Warriors finish the regular season with an 18-8 (11-5 GPAC) record and will be the fourth seed in the GPAC Volleyball Postseason Tournament. Concordia is now 9-18 (3-13 GPAC) and will be the eighth seed in the upcoming conference tournament thanks Dakota Wesleyan’s loss against No. 20 Morningside.

“It wasn’t a pretty win tonight but I was really proud at how our team fought through some adversity to get the big road win,” head coach Paul Giesselmann said. “We should have probably finished the match in three but we were able to regroup and get the job done. Now we just need to get focused on the postseason and continue to get better each day in practice.”

Priscilla O’Dowd led the way for the Warriors with 20 kills on the match. Jenny Bair and Shelby Bretschneider were next highest on the team with seven apiece. Midland hit .182 on the match while Concordia had a .135 attack percentage.

Jessica Peters had a double-double with 41 set assists and 12 digs. Jessica Neklfinished with 27 digs to lead the team.

At the net Midland had 11.0 blocks with seven players getting at least an assist. O’Dowd was the team leader with six block assists and one solo stop.

As the number four seed Midland will host fifth-seeded Morningside on Saturday night. The two teams met once during the regular season with Midland earning a sweep at home. First serve of the GPAC Quarterfinal match is set for 7:00 p.m. inside Wikert Event Center in Fremont, Nebraska.
