Midland women’s soccer wins on road

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Midland University women’s soccer scored three times in the second half of its first road game and didn’t yield a single goal to host Avila University on Wednesday night. Junior goalkeeper Jordan Thiem recorded four saves in her first shutout of the season.

“I thought we held the ball well in the first half, but just weren’t dangerous enough in the final third of the field,” said head coach Greg Jarosik. “In the second half we were able to find that extra gear offensively. Hannah Stewart is coming into her own in the midfield, and really controlled the tempo of our attack well. Our back line, anchored byMarley Farrell, was fantastic tonight in limiting Avila to only one clean chance all game.”

Midland outshot its opponent for the second straight match, owning a 13-10 advantage over Avila. The Warriors also put eight shots on goal compared to just four on target by the Eagles. Midland also held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

After a scoreless first half, senior Kaitlyn D’Arcangeli broke the scoring seal on the game just before the 60th minute of play. Ten minutes later, freshmanNayeli Rodriguez found the back of the net for her third goal on the young season.Mackenzie Fletcher scored the third and final goal of the game in the 80th minute.

Midland improves to 2-0 with Thiem’s shutout victory and Avila falls to 1-1.
