Midland’s Renner named GPAC Defensive Player of the Week

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports have announced the first weekly awards for the 2016 football season. Midland University’s Ethan Renner has been named the GPAC Football Defensive Player of the Week.

Renner, a senior from Crete, Nebraska, was a force at his outside linebacker position in Midland’s 26-0 shutout victory over Bethel College on Saturday. He recorded six tackles, 3.5 sacks, forced a fumble and intercepted a pass. The shutout was Midland’s first since Week 2 of the 2014 season.

Renner has nine tackles and four total sacks on the season through two games.

He also excelled in his duties as the Warriors’ punter last week. Renner punted five times for a net of 200 yards. Four of those punts landed inside the 20-yard line with two being downed at the opposition’s one-yard marker.

Midland University has opened the 2016 with a 2-0 record and will play its first road game of the season this Saturday at North Park University (NCAA DIII). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Chicago, Illinois.
