Midland’s Williams named Divison II NAIA Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that Midland University sophomore forward Ryan Williams has been named the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for November 20-26.

This is Ryan’s first national award and the first Midland men’s basketball player to win the award since Jesse Jones during the 2015-16 season.

“This a great honor for Ryan and our program,” head coach Oliver Drake commented. “Our guys understand that team success leads to individual accolades and Ryan had a big-time week for us. We challenged Ryan going into this season and he has certainly accepted that challenge thus far.”

This past week the Fremont, Nebraska native averaged 20 points per game shooting nearly 60% from the floor as Midland defeated to NAIA Top 10 teams. Against No. 10 Dakota Wesleyan he scored 24 points and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Then on Sunday he netted his second double-double of the year going for 26 points and 10 rebounds against No. 4 Bellevue.

This season he has been the team leader in points (18.9), rebounds (6.7) and steals (1.1) for Midland. His scoring average is fifth best in the GPAC. He ranks 27th nationally in the NAIA DII with 25 made three-point field goals.

Midland returns to the court on Wednesday night for a rivalry game at Doane. The Warriors and the Tigers tipoff at 8:00 p.m. in Crete, Nebraska.
