Morningside is ranked fourth in the nation in the first regular season NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released on September 11.
The Mustangs, who were also ranked fourth in the NAIA Preseason Poll, are off to a 3-0 start with a 41-24 victory against the University of St. Francis, a 65-14 blowout triumph against a Tabor College team that was ranked 10th in the preseason poll and a 35-30 win against NCAA Division II Truman State University.
Morningside has been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 for 127 consecutive polls for the nation’s longest active streak of Top 25 rankings. The Mustangs also have the nation’s longest active streak with 13 consecutive NAIA Championship Series appearances. Morningside has a 137-27 record for a .835 winning percentage since the start of the 2004 season.
Morningside is one of four teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in the NAIA Top 25. Aside from Morningside, Doane University is seventh, Dakota Wesleyan University is 22nd and Northwestern College is 24th.
The Mustangs will play their GPAC opener this Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Dordt College.
