The Briar Cliff volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (23-25, 28-26, 18-25, 23-25) loss to Morningside Tuesday night in the Newman Flanagan Center, snapping an eight game winning streak over Morningside. The win was the Mustangs’ first over the Cliff since 2011. The Chargers are now 6-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play and Morningside improves to 10-2 and 2-1 in league games.
Morningside led the match statistically in kills (58-47), assists (51-40) and service aces (3-2). Defensively, Morningside held the edge in digs (81-80) and blocks (17-11). The Mustangs earned a better hitting percentage (.178-.078), while the Chargers accounted for 33 attacking errors compared to 27 for Morningside.
Katelin Langel led the Cliff in kills with 15, followed by Nicolette Lavulo with 10 andEmily Sanburg and Teerstyn Johnson with seven apiece. Laura Barry notched a double-double accounting for 23 assists and 15 digs. Breanne Hankins led the Chargers defensively with 25 digs and Megan Lee notched 11. Lee, Katie Berg and Delaney Meyer each had a service ace in the match. Langel and Johnson each accounted for five blocks against the Mustangs.
BCU hosts Peru State on Friday, Sept. 16 in the Newman Flanagan Center. The Chargers and Bobcats will square off at 7 p.m.
