Morningside loses in four at Concordia

SEWARD, NEB. – It was another balanced effort for head coach Beth Donnelly’s Morningside College squad in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Wednesday, Oct. 24.

The trio of sophomore outside hitter Krista Zenk (LeMars, Iowa); junior middle hitter Emma Gerber (Worthington, Minn.); and junior middle hitter Brittni Olson (Sioux City, Iowa) each tallied double-digit kills for the Mustangs. Gerber’s evening inside Concordia University’s Walz Human Performance Complex gym was nothing short of perfection with 14 kills, three errors and 30 attack attempts for a .367 attack percentage to go with four total blocks. Zenk finished with 12 kills and 12 digs for a double-double and also registered three block assists, and Olson wound up with 11 kills and three total blocks, two of which were solo.

Even with those numbers in their corner, the visitors dropped their third straight conference contest, falling to 12-12 overall and 6-8 in the league. After rolling past the home-standing Bulldogs 25-15 in the first set, Concordia responded with 25-18, 25-16, 27-25 decisions for the match victory.

MC, sitting sixth on the loop standings, begins back-to-back dates on its home Allee Gymnasium floor inside the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center Saturday, Oct. 27. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ No. 14-ranked Hastings College makes an eastern trek for a 5 p.m. varsity first serve.
