Morningside Volleyball swept at Jamestown

A slow start turned out to be Morningside’s downfall on the road at the University of Jamestown today as the Mustangs fell to the Jimmies 3-0.  Morningside is now 12-9 on the season and 6-5 in conference play.

“We had an extremely slow start tonight,” reflected Beth Donnelly, head coach of the Mustangs. “By the time we started playing to our ability, it was too late. We have a ton of talent on this team. We have got to stop doubting that.”

Morningside’s freshman libero, Kayla Harris, led all players with 27 digs on the night.  Sophomore Krista Zenk also chipped in double digits with 14.

The Mustangs were led on the attack by junior Emma Gerber and freshman Lauren Rohwer.  Both with eight kills. Zenk added seven on the way to Morningside’s total of 33. Callie Alberico, a junior from Blair, Neb., doled out 26 of the Mustangs 28 assists on the night.

Morningside had six blocks on the night, all of which were solo blocks.  Junior Brittni Olson knocked down two balls at the net, with Gerber tying Jamestown’s Britta Knudson for a match high four solo blocks.

“We will get back in the gym and get 2 good practices under our belt before we face Midland on Wednesday. We will need to be at our best for 3 consecutive sets to compete, but I know we can,” said Donnelly of her team.

The Mustangs are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 17, when they host No. 9 Midland University for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
