NORFOLK, NE – After a 14-7 loss in the first game of their doubleheader against Marshalltown Community College here yesterday, the Northeast Community College softball team came back to win the second, 27-7.
“Good hitting performance by all of our hitters today in game two,” said Iris Woodhead, Hawks coach. “We were able to see the ball well. It was nice to see the patience at the plate and us jumping on mistakes. Good hitters hit mistakes hard, and I felt like we did that.”
Woodhead said game one did not unfold as smoothly, with the Hawks committing too many errors that led to runs.
“Not many people compete and win games with bad attitudes. I was glad to see us turn it around for game two to come away with the split.”
In game one, Savannah Robertson finished 2-for-3 with a run. Teanne Edens went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs. Shyanne Sutton was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs. Alayna Allen took the loss, pitching four innings with seven hits, eight runs, four errors, six strikeouts and two walks. Chandler Hehnke pitched three innings with eight hits, six runs, six errors two strikeouts, three walks and one hit by pitch.
In game two, Robertson picked up two doubles, while Hehnke, Rosario Garcia and Sutton had one double each. Edens collected one home run. As pitcher, Edens had the win with five runs, four errors, seven hits, four strikeouts and three walks in five innings.
The Hawks’ doubleheader with Iowa Lakes Community College, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed to a later date. Northeast (15-23 overall, 3-11 in region) is set to face Iowa Central Community College in a region matchup at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk on Saturday. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m.
