CRESTON, IA – The Northeast Community College volleyball team swept Southwestern Community College here Wednesday, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-23.

Coach Amanda Schultze said her team started the game strong. “We were able to stay in system for most of the game and keep them out of system.”

“In the third set, Southwestern had a few bursts of energy that put some pressure on us and took us out of system. However, the girls were able to rally against them and finish the match.”

Tabitha Kander led Northeast in kills with 12, while Kelsey Shoemaker had 11, and Monique Schafer, nine. Shoemaker and Courtney Labenz each had an assist block. Peyton Roach recorded four ace serves.

Mackenzie Wecker and Monique Schafer had 15 digs each, and Kander had 13. Labenz led assists with 22, and Jordan Vogt finished with 14.

Currently at 16th in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II rankings, the Hawks return to action on Friday when they travel to Seward to face Concordia JV in a 7 p.m. game.
