OMAHA, Neb. – Haley Shelton made a season-high 10 saves on Wednesday night as the Omaha women’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Eastern Washington.
The tie moved the Mavericks to 2-4-1 on the season. Eastern Washington is now 5-1-1 overall.
In the 23rd minute of the match, Eastern Washington was awarded a penalty kick following an Omaha foul in the 18-yard box. Shelton guessed the right way and saved Aimie Inthouley’s shot. After the save, Omaha had a chance of its own as Lydia Holtmann scorched a shot over the crossbar.
Omaha got a scare with less than 25 minutes remaining in regulation. Chloe Williams beat her UNO defender and got a shot off on goal. Shelton was able to come up with the save and kept the match scoreless.
The Mavericks’ best scoring chance came in the final four minutes of the second overtime. Abby Meader appeared to beat her defender and score the game winner but was deemed offside.
UNO returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 as the Mavericks travel to Colorado to face Northern Colorado at 8 p.m. (CT).
