Omaha Hockey releases non-conference schedule for next season

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Athletics announced the non-conference schedule for the 2018-19 hockey season on Monday. The slate features 10 games against teams from the Big Ten, WCHA, ECAC and independent Arizona State.

The Mavericks open their 22nd season of hockey at Union of ECAC Hockey on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13. They’ll then return home to face NCAA runner-up Notre Dame of the Big Ten for their home opener on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20 at 7:07 p.m. at Baxter Arena. Both series are the conclusion of home-and-home series begun last season.

The Mavericks will conclude October with their first trip to Arizona State on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27. The series will mark the first of two between the teams. UNO hosts Arizona State on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24.

Omaha’s final non-conference series will be played over the New Year’s weekend. The Mavericks welcome Alaska Anchorage of the WCHA on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 7:07 p.m. and then host a New Year’s Eve matinee against the Seawolves on Monday, Dec. 31 at 12:07 p.m.

The Mavericks also will play an exhibition game against Canadian university Manitoba on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5:07 p.m. The two teams will be renewing acquaintances for the first time since the 2008-09 season. The Bison were UNO’s exhibition opponent for the first 12 years of the program.
