SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Omaha men’s basketball team survived an overtime thriller Thursday night, defeating South Dakota 107-102 on a neutral court at the Sanford Pentagon. With the win, the Mavericks sweep the season series and improve to 14-9 (8-2 Summit League), while the Coyotes suffer their third straight loss and drop to 9-14 (3-7).

Leaders for Omaha

Zach Jackson recorded his fifth 20-point scoring effort in six games, exploding for a game-high 27. He finished 9-of-17 from the field with three 3-pointers, six rebounds and an assist.

Hahn joined him with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting and hit 5-of-6 at the stripe, adding four boards and two assists. Hahn hit the game-tying three to send the contest to overtime at 87-87.

KJ Robinson totaled 20 points for the night, hitting 5-of-8 from the field and 8-of-9 at the line. He dished out a game-high seven assists and chipped in four rebounds and a steal.

Six Mavericks finished in double figures, as Matt Pile and Ayo Akinwole also had 11 points apiece and JT Gibson pitched in 10 more. Pile pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds as well.

Leaders for South Dakota

Stanley Umude led the way with a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double along with four assists, three blocks and a steal. Triston Simpson matched him with 24 points.

Cody Kelley added 18 points, Brandon Armstrong had 17 and Tyler Peterson had 12.

Team Stats

Omaha shot .500 (30-of-60) to South Dakota’s .492 (31-of-63) from the floor. The Mavericks finished .787 (37-of-47) at the stripe, while USD came in at a .743 (26-of-35) clip as the two teams combined for 57 fouls and 82 free throws.

Omaha had the advantage on the glass, 37-27 and a 38-28 edge in the paint.

Inside the First Half

The Mavericks shot .583 (14-of-24) out of the gate, as senior captains Jackson (13) and Hahn (10) combined for 23 of Omaha’s 40 points. A Robinson layup at 9:05 put the Mavericks ahead, and the lead eventually stretched to 11 with three minutes left. Omaha took a 40-33 lead into the break.

Inside the Second Half

An early 9-0 run on three straight triples from Jackson, Hahn and Brett Barney spotted Omaha its largest lead of the night at 54-36 with16:39 to go. But South Dakota erased the 18-point deficit and took the lead with nine minutes remaining.

The Coyotes led by as many as six and went up 82-77 with 47 seconds to go, but Jackson nailed a three with 29 seconds on the clock to pull within one at 83-82. Following two free throws from Simpson, a Hahn lay-in brought it to a one-point game again 85-84. Simpson then hit two more foul shots on the other end, and Hahn canned the game-tying trey from NBA range with six seconds left to send the game to overtime.

Inside Overtime

Matt Pile and KJ Robinson scored six points apiece to pace Omaha in the extra period. USD would get no closer than four the rest of the way, as the Mavericks hit 16 of their 19 attempts at the line to close it out.

Noting Tonight’s Game

JT Gibson remains the only Maverick with a make from three in all 23 games this season.

-Omaha has won 11 of its last 13 games.

The Mavericks have out rebounded seven of their last eight opponents.

-Omaha has had single-digit turnovers in 10 of its last 14 games.

-Hahn has scored in double figures in 13 straight games, while Gibson has done so in 11 straight.
