HAMPTON, Va. – Omaha fell 5-4 to Albany in UNO’s final game at the Blue-White Classic at the Lady Pirate Softball Stadium. The Mavericks are now 12-14 on the season, while the Great Danes improve to 7-7.
Omaha took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Natalie Mostekwalked to lead off the inning. Kelly Pattison singled to left to give the Mavericks runners on first and second. Savannah Fisher walked to load the bases with one out. Emma Dargy drew the third walk of the inning to score Mostek. Albany avoided any more damage by turning a double play.
The Great Danes took the lead in the top of the second. Kelly Spear singled to open the inning and scored on Sarah Petzold’s double. Petzold advanced to third on the throw home and scored on a passed ball to give Albany a 2-1 lead. Back-to-back hits by Shaye Swiatek and McKenzie Bump put the Great Danes in front 3-1 in the top of the third.
The Mavericks bats came alive in the bottom of the third. Pattison hit a two-out double and Fisher walked. Dargy then singled to center scoring Pattison and moving Fisher to third. Omaha tied the game at 3-3 when pinch runner Sydney Hampton scored on a passed ball. A batter later, another passed ball allowed Dargy to score and put Omaha in front 4-3.
Albany responded with two runs in the top of the fourth. Petzold tied the game with a one-out RBI double. The Great Danes went back in front 5-4 on Katie Falotico’s RBI double.
UA reliever Maranda Jimenez retired nine of the 10 batters she faced to preserve the win.
Pattison went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and scored a run. Dargy finished the day 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored.
