Omaha Volleyball loses final match of CEFCU Classic to Bradley

PEORIA, Ill. – Omaha volleyball dropped a three-set match to Eastern Illinois in its final match of the CEFCU Classic at Bradley University.

The Mavericks fell 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 to the Panthers Saturday morning.

Leaders for Omaha
Sadie Limback had a team-best nine kills and three blocks, while Anna Blaschko followed with seven kills on .375 hitting and four blocks.

Breaking Down the Box Score

  • Omaha recorded less kills (41-32), assists (39-30), digs (42-29) and aces (5-2) than EIU.
  • The Mavericks hit .163 compared to Eastern Illinois’ .308.
  • Omaha won the blocking battle 10-6.

Inside Set 1
Omaha fell behind early and could not close the gap to retake the lead. The Mavericks tied the score at 11-11 midway through the set, but a 6-1 Panther run increased the deficit. Eastern Illinois went on to score four straight to close out the set.

Inside Set 2
Despite a 6-2 run during the middle of the set, Omaha was unable to close out the set with a win. The Mavericks led 18-12 in the match, but Eastern Illinois answered with four straight points. A Panther kills tied the match at 21-all before Omaha found itself behind by two. The Mavericks were able to tie it at 23-23, but service error and an attack error gave the Panthers two straight points to go up 2-0 in the match.

Inside Set 3
The set was tied at 19-19, but four straight Eastern Illinois points created enough separation for the sweep. Omaha fell behind 23-19 off a pair of Panther kills and a pair of attack errors. The gap proved to be too much, as Eastern Illinois scored two more and took the set 25-20.

Next Up
Omaha opens Summit League competition on the road with a pair off matches at South Dakota State on Friday, Sept. 21, and at North Dakota State Sunday, Sept. 23. The Mavericks return to Baxter Arena Friday, Sept. 28 against Western Illinois for their conference home opener.
