SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Freshman setter Sydney Case tallied her second career Summit League Offensive Player of the Week award for her performances Sept. 21-23, the league office announced Monday.
The Lakeville, Minn., native helped the Mavericks to a 2-0 start in Summit League action with road wins over South Dakota State and North Dakota State. Over the week, Case averaged 12.56 assists per set.
She tallied 48 assists in the 3-1 win over South Dakota State and a career-high 65 assists in the five-set win against North Dakota State en route to head coach Rose Shires earning her 500th career win.
Case’s 65 assists are the most in a single match for an individual Maverick since Katie Agnew (66 vs. Minnesota State, 2007). She is also the first Omaha player to tally 60-plus assists in the Division I era and the first since 2009 to record 60 or more assists for a match.
She is also the first Omaha player since Kimberly Bailey in 2015 to win a Summit League Player of the Week award twice in one season.
Omaha opens its Summit League home slate this Friday, Sept. 28, against Western Illinois.
